Mezzo

Mezzo is a militaristic nation-state to the south of Kildengaard. Known for its brutal and exacting justice, Mezzo is run by a quintessential military hierarchy. It’s capital city, Hyto-Kanga houses the Commander’s Circle, run by High Commander Khaladin. Denizens are known as “Knives” that wear gilded sashes to identify themselves. Accordingly, movement across Mezzo’s borders is highly regulated and documentation is scrutinized at all times. The capital city is extremely important to Mezzo’s supply lines, trading with Kildengaard and other northern nations and funneling supplies to the twin warfronts to the South.

Mezzo is in a constant state of war with the other Warring Sisters, Terno & Pytoz, to the southeast and southwest respectively. Controlling the rich croplands and game reserves that surround the Lake of Shadows is important to each of the Sisters and has fueled centuries of intense border disputes. All lay claim to the island of Kul’Zarah, which holds religious significance to the worshippers of Lyssa that represent the majority of each populace.

The denizens of Mezzo are a high-manufacturing people, mostly specializing in weaponry, armor, and explosives. Those of other specialties are considered second-status and largely support those fueling the war efforts. The Caliphate of the Coin is a particular exception, a group of bounty hunters that roam the lands searching for at-large criminals, passivists, dissenters, and immigrants without documentation — turning each into the Commander’s Circle for a share of the respective reward or bounty. Deep within the ranks, the Onyx Fist has a notable presence as well, funneling supplies throughout Mezzo that would otherwise not belong in a militaristic nation.
